Stumbled upon this fairly long piece that ran in the New York Times last fall. It tells the story of a man who died with no apparent friends or relatives and the long, drawn-out investigative and legal process that takes place when such a person dies.

I know, one must assume that if he was found on the floor, he must have been at least somewhat aware of what was happening. What an awful way to go.
